Happy New Year, Hotel Breakfast

Today is a holiday for the Chinese of Penang. The town, and our hotel, are decorated with red streamers and lanterns. Last night there were multiple fireworks at midnight. The whole town around us was lit up with displays so that I worried about fire. It was impossible to sleep with the cacophony out there.

One of many fireworks outside our hotel at midnight.

This morning we await a dragon dance in our hotel courtyard, and firecrackers everywhere! It may be a scary day.

Breakfast at our hotel is served by the Bangladeshi help...it is not their holiday! Breakfast is amazing....always a local noodle bowl and then nonya rice pastries, veggie stir fry, eggs, cereal, samosas, and toast. Something for everyone and representing the Malays, Indians, Chinese, and British. My only regret that I cannot then go out and eat street food.

Hokkien Mee - egg and rice noodles with bean sprouts in a spicy, shrimpy broth.
