High Tea at the E and O

So the Eastern and Oriental Hotel was built by the same guy who built Raffles in Singapore. The E&O sits right on the water, nestled into a jumble of newer and less beautiful buildings. It is, however, a grande dame and we walked right over after we got settled into our hotel room. It was, after all, time for high tea!

The front desk (featured in the opening scene of Crazy Rich Asians) was very proper and helpful. “Do you have a reservation?” No. He called up to the 1985 dining room and secured us a spot. We were escorted into a proper dining room and handed the menu for high tea. Our only decision was the type of tea...I chose Assam, Barbara chose Darjeeling. They gave us two full pots of loose brewed tea with milk and sugar, and a lovely tea strainer to strain out the tea leaves.

The Big Decision, English Breakfast, Assam, Earl Grey?

A very unique and hard-to-use tea strainer. The bottom container, meant to contain drippings, kept unbalancing the device, dumping the leaves back in the cup after being strained out.

Love the very old fashioned flatware.

Waiting for our food....

An incredible assortment of sweet and savory pastries.

The main lobby, featured in Crazy Rich Asians as the lobby of the hotel in London.

It was a lovely experience and only 79 ringgits, or about $20.00.
