Moelv to Lillehammer
Staying at: VANDRERHJEM stasjonen
Cost: 368 kroner. Including great breakfast with piles of lox and pickled herring
Day 4: Lillehammer, same place, same price, walked 4.9 miles
We left our magical cottage at 10:06 and began the climb up. It was the perfect slow rise, not too much, but all on concrete. At the top, the trail departed from our gps map into a deforested plot of land muddy from the last rains. It was the second such plot we passed and wonder at the logic of cutting it all down in such an ecological country.
The guy who created the gps map apparently took a lot of shortcuts. The sidetrip through the deforested land was a few miles at least.
The rest of the walk was uneventful although the weather cooled and we had a light rain. Laura decided, once we got to Brøttum, to take the bus to Lillehammer. Hurrah! The bus was easy and we avoided an easy walk in the rain the next day.
The lupines are everywhere on the side of the road as are other wildflowers.
Lillehammer
So I loved the TV series, so was happy to finally reach this Nordic alpine village. I found the bar which was used in the tv show, but apparently the rest was filmed offsite.
Stream in the middle of the village
I had a sore toe, so set out to find a solution...my toe was banging against the front of the shoe when walking down. I found one shop which offered to sell me new shoes and sent me to the pharmacy, which had no solution. I walked down the sweet walking street (common here, I’ve seen them fail in the USA many times. At any rate, great shops, many of them outdoor stores, but lots selling Norwegian products. There are also lots of knitting stores...someone has to make those Norwegian sweaters.
I eventually found a store with a knowledgeable owner and bought a set of inserts. Later, I ran into a fellow pilgrim (we met a few days before at hostel) who had sore feet. I took her to the store where she got expert attention!
I couldn’t resist...a perfect match between consumer and product
